Following a competition? This guide explains the stage formats used in League Hub events β how each format works, how standings are calculated, and how ties are broken. For where to view brackets and standings, see Portal Overview.

Events on the Gaming Oasis League Hub are broken into stages β separate competition phases within a single event. A season might run a Groups stage to seed teams, then a Single Elimination bracket for playoffs, or use Swiss rounds to narrow the field before a final bracket.
Each stage has a format that controls how matches are generated, how teams advance, and how standings are ranked.

Where to see this in the product: On the Portal, open an event and switch to a stage tab for standings tables and brackets. League admins configure stages in the Dashboard under event setup and the stage matches page.

| Format | How it works | Standings / ranking |
|---|---|---|
| Groups | Teams split into groups; each group plays a round-robin schedule (everyone in the group meets). | Standings table per group with a standardized 9-step tiebreaker chain. |
| Swiss | Teams play a fixed number of rounds; pairings update each round based on current records (no elimination mid-stage). | Single standings table with a 10-step tiebreaker chain (includes Buchholz). |
| Single elimination | Bracket: lose once and you're out. Winners advance until one team remains. | Final placement comes from bracket finish (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.). |
| Double elimination | Bracket with a winners bracket and a losers bracket. Teams must lose twice to be eliminated. | Final placement comes from bracket finish, including losers-bracket paths. |
These terms apply across Groups, Swiss, and other stage types.
